Vancouver Island House Flip Project - Parksville, BC

One of my passions is finding the possibilities in a home or piece of furniture. DIYers unite! Though I may not be in charge of the projects we do, I definitely supervise and pick up the odd paint brush.
12 years ago James and I bought this house in central Parksville, BC on Vancouver Island. We lived in it for a few years but found an acreage close by that suited our lifestyle. This home became a well-loved rental over the next 10 years.
Earlier this year we tried to sell the house on the island real estate market. In the meantime, we were looking at buying a house to ‘flip.’ All the buyers that viewed our property said the same thing “love this house, needs a renovation.” So we thought, why by a different house to flip, when we have this house in front of us? We already own this house in Parksville. And it is a home with built in character.
The real estate market on Vancouver Island has changed, and selling high without value, is not going to wash any longer. So we are trying to bring value to you, the buyer, the real estate consumer. Or even just the DIY’er and HGTV addict! This fall we began the long, but exciting task of ‘flipping’ this home. A few of the updates and renos will be bathrooms, kitchen, flooring and paint, to name a few.
This home is situated in central Parksville and is literally 4 blocks to Parksville beach. There are schools, parks, banks and coffee shops within walking distance. The yard is nearly .25 acre, is fenced and private. The back of the home is all windows and looks out to the backyard and onto the long patio made for hosting summer BBQ’s. In the winter there is a woodstove insert in the central fireplace that will keep the house cozy and warm. There is one large bedroom and full bathroom on the main floor. Upstairs there are two more large bedrooms, a 4 piece bathroom, and bright loft space. A small dormer deck looks out over the backyard from the master bedroom and the perfect place for morning coffee or evening wine.
I hope you follow along as we post pictures, videos, questions and DIY info along the way of our project.
